Few sectors inspire our dreams and ambitions as strongly as aviation. From design and construction to maintenance and flight, aviation is an industry that shapes the future. Demand for personal and commercial air travel has created employment opportunities for trained personnel in many fields, particularly aircraft maintenance and repair technicians.
Every structural component of an aircraft is of vital importance in aviation. The aircraft structure as a whole, and particularly its engine and components, must be maintained with precision on the basis of current data and universal standards. This precision plays a crucial role in ensuring safe flight, with al other operational components sharing similar responsibilities. The Department of Aircraft Maintenance and Repair at Nişantaşı University School of Civil Aviation aims to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills required to fulfil these responsibilities at the prescribed standards when they enter the profession. It also offers a programme combining theoretical and practical approaches needed to succeed in today’s constantly changing, dynamic, and expanding aviation industry, thereby preparing students for fieldwork.
As the aviation industry, particularly aircraft structure and engine technology, requires field personnel to perform in accordance with universal standards, English, the language of aviation, holds an important place throughout the educational system. With this approach, Nişantaşı University School of Civil Aviation aims to meet this requirement through intensive English programmes in the Department of Aircraft Maintenance and Repair, as in al its departments. Consequently, the Department educates prospective aircraft technicians who can meet the expectations of national and international aviation authorities through a combination of technological and English-language education.
The Department of Aircraft Maintenance and Repair enriches its four-year curriculum with technical courses and practical training specific to the field, together with a range of elective courses and subjects from related disciplines. Intensive English instruction is also provided to strengthen technical competence. Courses include Aircraft Maintenance Terminology, Thermodynamics, Basic Electricity, Gas Turbine Engine Theory, Aircraft Equipment and Practices, Aircraft Electrical Systems, Flight Controls, and related subjects. Practical training in mechanical and structural workshops complements the theoretical instruction.
Graduates may work in the technical departments of Turkish Airlines Inc., Turkish Air Force Air Supply and Maintenance Centres, private airline companies, aircraft maintenance centres, and other organizations operating in the aviation sector.
Graduates may also apply to master’s and doctoral programmes in the field of aviation.
Students wishing to register for the Department must complete the procedures and pass the examinations specified by ÖSYM within the framework of the University’s academic and legal regulations. Students who have begun their studies in an equivalent programme in Türkiye or abroad may apply for transfer. Applications are reviewed before the beginning of the semester and evaluated individualy, taking into account each applicant’s circumstances and the degree programme for which they have applied. International students participating in exchange programmes approved by the University and governed by formal agreements may take courses offered by the Department.
There is no special end-of-programme examination or final examination period that must be completed at the end of the academic year or following completion of the programme in order to earn the degree. However, each semester includes midterm examinations and a final examination period, generaly lasting two weeks immediately after the end of the semester. In addition, students are required to prepare a Graduation Thesis based on a project and deliver an oral presentation of the thesis in the seventh or eighth semester.
